Unit Overview

In this unit, kids dive into aeronautical engineering by designing models of flying technologies that help NASA collect aerial photographs. Kids will learn that scientists and engineers often study harsh environments here on Earth (like the largest desert in the world, the Empty Quarter) to understand the environments they might encounter in space.

Core Program Unit Components

The EA curriculum consists of two components: educator guides and materials kits.

Educator guides include preview pages with materials and preparation information, an adventure guide with step-by-step instructions for the educator, and one engineering journal for kids. We suggest copying an engineering journal for each child participating, as they provide spaces to record findings and reflect on learning.

Materials kits include all the supplies needed for 24 kids to complete the engineering activities in this unit.
