The program includes four engineering challenges that open up young learners’ minds to the world of engineering by encouraging them to use familiar materials to solve problems:
- Noisemakers: Children create a loud noisemaker for a surprise party.
- Fans: Children create a fan that can produce enough wind to move a ball.
- Wrecking Balls: Children create a wrecking ball that can knock over a stack of blocks.
- Rafts: Children create a raft that can support the weight of a toy.
The Wee Engineer curriculum provides everything you need to engage your youngest learners in STEM.
The Teacher Guide includes step-by-step instructions for educators to lead four engineering challenges, materials preparation information, discussion prompts, educator tips, family resources, a poster, and set of cards illustrating the Engineering Design Process.
The Digital Unit provides easy access to an online version of the unit. Convenient, online access to the Teacher Guide and resources makes it easy to seamlessly project to the class, deliver STEM learning virtually, and prep for lessons any time, anywhere. The Digital Unit is available as a one and three year subscription.
The Materials Kit includes all the supplies needed for 20 children to complete the engineering activities in this guide and a puppet to help educators set the context for each activity.
The Wee Engineering resources extend and enhance STEM learning for today’s youngest learners. With everything from family letters and “make your own at home” engineering bags, to how-to videos and suggested reading book lists, educators have what they need for engineering success in their early childhood classroom. Resources are available in print and digitally.
